Self-Hosted 6X Softswitch: the install package is now a direct download

Self-Hosted 6X Softswitch: the install package is now a direct download

If you run (or are setting up) a self-hosted 6X Softswitch box, the appliance package and install guide are now real, direct downloads from softswitch.6xcom.com - no more guesswork about where to get the files.

If you signed up for the self-hosted tier of 6X Softswitch - your own dedicated server running 6X's wholesale voice/SMS routing engine instead of 6X's shared infrastructure - you may have hit a real gap we just closed: the install guide told you to run sudo ./bootstrap.sh <your-installation-key>, but never explained how to actually get that file onto a fresh server. If your box has nothing on it yet and that command just errors with "file not found," this is exactly why - not something you did wrong.

What changed

The appliance package and the full install guide are now real, direct downloads from 6X's own softswitch.6xcom.com domain - the same page where self-hosted pricing lives. No account login is needed to grab the files themselves; your installation key (the thing that actually ties your box to your account for billing and rate sync) is still issued separately by 6X support, exactly as before.

What to do if you were stuck

Run this on your server before anything else:

cd /root
wget https://softswitch.6xcom.com/download -O 6x-switch-appliance.tar.gz
tar xzf 6x-switch-appliance.tar.gz
cd appliance

That gives you a real appliance/ folder with bootstrap.sh (blank Debian 12 server) or install.sh (you already run a voice engine and Docker your own way) actually present. From there, follow the full install guide exactly as written - the rest of the process hasn't changed, only this missing first step.

Already have a working install?

Nothing to do - this only affects the very first download step for a box that was never set up yet. Your running installation, billing, and sync are completely unaffected.

Update: the guide is now a real page, and a second confusing error is fixed

Two more real gaps closed since this was first published. First, softswitch.6xcom.com/install-guide is no longer a bare document - it's a real page with the full walkthrough, a visual terminal preview of what the install actually looks like, and a side-by-side comparison of the two install paths.

Second: every example command shows sudo ./bootstrap.sh <your-installation-key> - the angle brackets are a placeholder meaning "put your real key here," not literal characters to type. If you ever typed them in by mistake and hit a confusing bash error, that's fixed too - both bootstrap.sh and install.sh now catch this exact mistake and explain it directly instead of failing cryptically.
