Extensions & Staff Lines

Create phone lines for your staff, get SIP login details instantly, and manage voicemail/forwarding/caller ID per line.

Extensions & Staff Lines

Extensions are self-service from the Wholesale Portal's Extensions page. Each extension is a real phone line with its own SIP login — register it in the 6X Softphone or any SIP device to make and receive calls under your account.

Creating a line

  1. Go to Extensions in your portal.
  2. Optionally give it a label (e.g. a staff member's name).
  3. Click Create.

An extension number is assigned automatically from your account's reserved block, along with a password — the password is shown once, right after creation, so copy it down immediately. If you lose it, use Reset Password on that extension to generate a new one (shown once again the same way).

Registering a phone

Use the extension number and password to register:

  • The 6X Softphone at dial.6xcom.com/agent.html — works instantly in any browser, no installation.
  • Any SIP-compatible desk phone, softphone app, or PBX — use the extension number as the username/password and your assigned SIP domain.

Managing lines

From the Extensions list you can rename a line, enable/disable it, reset its password, or delete it entirely. Search by extension number or label if you have many.

Per-extension Settings

Open Settings on any extension for:

  • Voicemail — see Voicemail.
  • Do Not Disturb — sends every call straight to voicemail (if enabled) without ringing the line.
  • Record Calls — see Call Recording.
  • Forward All Calls — every call goes straight to another number/extension instead of ringing this line.
  • Follow Me — rings this line, and if unanswered, also tries a second destination before falling through to voicemail.
  • Caller ID — choose which of your outbound-enabled numbers this extension shows when calling out.

Putting extensions to work

A single extension is useful on its own, but most accounts group several into a Ring Group so incoming calls ring more than one line at once, and/or point an Internal IVR menu option at a specific extension.
