Gateway Devices — Route SMS & Calls Through Your Own SIM
Your portal's Gateway Devices page lets you register your own Android phone(s) as an SMS or Voice gateway — messages/calls go out through your own SIM card instead of standard vendor routing, at your existing rate. No approval needed to register a device; it's your own SIM and your own wallet either way.
Registering a device
Click Register a Device, give it a name, choose SMS or Voice (a device is one or the other, never both — register two if you need both from the same phone), and pick a SIM slot. You'll get an API key immediately — install the 6X Gateway Android app and enter the server host, port 443, and that key. The device shows as Offline until the app checks in for the first time.
Three ways traffic can reach a device
- Send SMS / Place Call directly — on the device's own card, type a message or number and send it through that specific device.
- Auto-Route My SMS — an account-wide toggle: once on, every SMS you send from your normal Send SMS page (or the business API) goes through your device(s) instead of standard vendor routing. Requires at least one active SMS device.
- SMPP-Bind Gateway Routing — for SMS submitted directly from your own system via your SMPP bind credentials, bypassing the portal entirely. Requires Auto-Route to be enabled first, and delivers real delivery receipts (DLRs) back to your SMPP client.
Flash-call OTP verification
When placing a call, choose Flash call instead of Normal — the device rings the destination for about 4 seconds and hangs up without being answered. The caller ID itself is the verification code, useful for OTP/2FA delivery. Billed a flat per-attempt fee (set by your provider) rather than a per-minute rate, and only charged once the call actually completes — never on a failed attempt.
Billing
Gateway traffic is billed exactly like any other SMS/call from your account — same rates, same wallet. A device relaying your traffic doesn't change your pricing, only which "vendor" carries it.
