Getting a diagnosis for your car

How to submit a fault code, symptoms, and photos/videos to get your report started.

Step 1 — Identify your vehicle

Decode your VIN (free, no account needed, at 6xcom.com/vin-decode) or just enter your make/model/year manually when you start a diagnosis.

Step 2 — Tell us what's wrong

You can submit any combination of:

  • A fault code you already have - read off your own dashboard, or from a cheap OBD-II reader you own.
  • A plain-language description of the symptoms (strange noise, warning light, loss of power, etc.).
  • Photos or a short video of the dashboard, warning light, or the issue itself.

The more you give us, the better the report - a symptom description that matches real evidence in the knowledge base can re-rank which cause is actually most likely for your situation.

Step 3 — Get your report

Once submitted, the report is generated right away. If you have an account, sign in with just your email (no password needed for a first visit - we send a one-time sign-in link) to see it. You'll see a preview with the number of possible causes found and - if any cause is serious - a safety warning, completely free, before you pay anything. The full ranked report with tests and cost estimates unlocks once payment is confirmed. See Paying for your report.

If we don't have a confident match

If your fault code or vehicle isn't in our knowledge base with enough confidence yet, your request is flagged for a closer look instead of generating a report that might be wrong - we'd rather tell you honestly than guess.
