Understanding your diagnosis report
Ranked causes, confidence levels, safe-to-drive ratings, and repair cost estimates explained.
Ranked possible causes
Your report lists every known cause for your fault code, ranked by likelihood - and re-ranked further if your symptom description or live sensor data matches real evidence for one cause over another. Each cause shows:
- Confidence (High / Medium / Low) - how strongly this cause is associated with your fault code.
- Severity - Safe to Drive, Caution, or Stop Driving. This tells you how urgent the issue is, not just what's likely wrong.
- Estimated repair cost - a rough USD range where we have real data for it. Always a rough estimate, not a quote - actual cost varies by region and shop.
- Recommended test - what a mechanic should actually check to confirm this is the real cause, sometimes with step-by-step instructions.
The safety rating is never behind a paywall
If any possible cause for your fault code is serious enough that we'd recommend not driving the car, you'll see that warning on the free preview page before you ever pay - we don't hold safety-relevant information behind payment.
Coverage notes
If your specific vehicle only has partial coverage in our knowledge base (generic OBD-II diagnostics, not manufacturer-specific procedures yet), your report says so clearly rather than implying more certainty than we actually have. See Which vehicles does 6X AutoDiag support?
This isn't a replacement for a mechanic
The report is a professional starting point for diagnosis - especially useful for knowing what to ask a mechanic to check first - but it's generated from a knowledge base, not a hands-on inspection of your actual car.
